a Lisa Marangon, aka The Marathon, was born 12 June 1980 and is a Sydney-based professional triathlete.
She won the Busselton, Western Australia half ironman on 5 May, 2007 in a race record of 4:15:13. The race consisted of a 1.9km swim, a 90.1km bike and a 21.1km run.
A single mum, Lisa is known for her grit. She fell heavily in training just weeks ahead of the May 2007 race, damaging her ribs. It wasn't the first time she raced injured. In late October 2006, Lisa was among four cyclists hit by a car on a Sydney motorway before competing at Ironman WA - where on a borrowed bike, and still recovering, she was in second place coming off the bike and crossed the line in a PB of 9:35.
An Ironman race consists of a 3.8km swim, a 1801.km bike and a 42.2km run.
In 2003, Lisa won the 18-24 age group at Ironman Australia in Forster, and the NSW state duathlon championships before racing to second place at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii.
In 2004, Lisa won her age group for a second year at Ironman Australian and placed third at the World Championships in Hawaii.
During 2004, Lisa turned pro.
She's completed nine of 10 Ironman races she's started - four as an amateur and five as a pro. Her best professional placing was third at Ironman Korea 2005. Her Ironman PB was set at Ironman WA in 2006.
In each of her professional races, she's exited the water among the top three women and she's completed the bike among the top five. During the past 12 months, she's been concentrating on improving her run. In The Sydney Morning Herald half marathon on 20 May 2007, Lisa finished the race in 88:32 for third in her age group.
As a teenager, she played netball, basketball, touch football and soccer - though it was in the pool in which she excelled. She won a coveted Pierre de Coubertin Award from the Australian Olympic Committee in 1996 in recognition of her athletic prowess and qualities of fair play.
Lisa currently is setting up a personal training business in Concord, NSW.

Goals: Want to win Hawaii Ironman before I am 30!! Typical Training: 30hrs per week cycling, running, swimming, weights, yoga, pilates Who Influenced You in the Sport: Friends from a local pool knew that I could swim and asked me to try a triathlon. I nearly beat all the guys!! Best Moments: 2nd Place (70.3 Port Macquarie 2006) I finished just 29 seconds behind Belinda Granger. Watching my son head into school for the first time. Favourite film / food / country: Food - Pizza, Film - Shrek. As for country, Korea and the US (Hawaii).
Longest Training You Ever Did: There was a day it was windy, raining, cold and I had to ride 160km, then run 30km. I didn't get home til about 4pm. I had started at 6am! Embarassing Moment: When I did a Kurnell sprint race when I first started. I went to stop and tried to click out of my pedal but my foot got stuck and I did a flip with my bike right in front of the whole crowd!
